Abstract:
Abstract Demographics and Socioeconomics. North Carolina is located in the South Atlantic region of the United States. The state’s 2005 population of 8.4 million made it the eleventh most populous state. The state’s population increased by 361,728 people from 2000 to 2005, and is projected to increase to 11.4 million by 2025. This 1.6 percent projected annual growth rate is above the national average of 1.0 percent. In 2005 North Carolina had a per capita personal income of $31,029, which was $3,466 below the national average. The state’s per capita income grew at an average annual rate of 2.8 percent, close to the 2.9 percent national average.
