Abstract:
Abstract An increase in commercial activity and the development of joint stock companies have always been accompanied by a sharp demand for competent accountants. In this environment, a vibrant accounting profession and institutions providing quality accounting education is critical to the steady supply of competent accounting professionals. Professional bodies contribute to the steady supply of competent accountants, firstly through education, training, and examination of aspiring accountants. To this end, they support applied research and diffusion of knowledge through publications and conferences. Professional bodies also develop codes of ethics and professional standards to ensure that the work and services provided by accounting professionals are of a high standard and are ethical in their dealings. More recently professional bodies have made continuing professional education a compulsory requirement for membership, ensuring that the knowledge and skills of its members are current.
