Abstract:
Abstract Illinois, located in the Middle West region of the United States, and had a population of 12.8 million people in 2006, making it the fifth most populous state. The state’s population increased by 412,677 people from 2000 to 2006, and is projected to increase to 13.3 million by 2025. This 0.2% projected annual growth rate compares to the projected national average of 0.8%. Per capita personal income in Illinois was $38,297 in 2006, up from $36,361 in 2005. For 2006, this was fifteenth highest in the country and $1,668 above the national average. From 2000 to 2006 per capita income in Illinois grew at an average annual rate of 2.9%, compared to 3.5% nationally.
