A chapter in Breaking the Code of Project Management, 2009, pp 1-19 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract A project may be defined as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service. It can be as simple as the plan for an off-site retreat or as complex as the development and production of a space shuttle. In the project method, instead of grouping people in the traditional functional units based on means (work processes, knowledge, or skills), they are grouped in cross-functional units based on ends (product or customer).
