Abstract: Abstract This chapter is an introduction to crisis management, examining consultants’ definitions of crises, their accounts of the management of crises and their reasoning as to why crisis management is necessary.1 It discusses the theories of symbolic interactionism and the risk society, outlines the origins and evolution of crisis management and explores how it is promoted.
