Coming of age

Chapter Chapter 7 in INSEAD, 2000, pp 159-184 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Insead had made a lot of progress through the 1970s. It had acquired an impressive faculty body, a highly regarded MBA programme, and had built an executive education platform capable of generating sufficient revenues to cover three-quarters of its operating budget. It had a reputation for excellence in teaching and real credibility within sections of the business community. But given the impending changes in top management structure, the burning question was whether two people drawn from the faculty ranks would not squander this hard-earned reputation in their pursuit of academic respectability. There was a lot of pressure on Thanheiser and Rameau to show they could be trusted not to alienate the business community. Some on the board still suspected that not replacing Cailliau would be like letting the lunatics run the asylum.
