Abstract:
Abstract The first six chapters of this book discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the Eurosystem. The overall picture that emerges is that of an institution whose foundations are still weak. Our analysis suggests that reforms are required in several areas. We summarize them here under six concrete proposals. These recommendations should be seen as a stimulus for further discussion. We do not pretend to offer a solution to all the problems. Nevertheless, we believe that the issues that we have identified are of concern even for the achievement of the ECB’s primary objective. It is imperative therefore that a solution be found.
