Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines the future role of banks and to what extent that future is threatened by growing competition, changing technology and regulations. The main thrust of this chapter will focus on new technology and the emergence of the Internet and complementary technologies. Some comment will also be made concerning regulatory issues.
