Chapter 12 in Wise Management in Organisational Complexity, 2013, pp 181-197 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Rooney and McKenna (2007) argue convincingly that the scientific paradigm in management theory has led to a decline in the role of wisdom, leading to ‘clouding judgment, degrading decision making and compromising ethical standards’ (2007, p. 113). This echoes an ongoing debate about business school curricula being focused in a scientific approach to management and leadership, excluding issues of value and responsibility (Ghoshal, 2005; Schumpeter, 2009; Rayment and Smith, 2010). This has also moved into a debate about the ethical identity of management and the professions (Khurana and Nohria, 2008; Robinson, 2011; MacIntyre, 1981; Bauman, 1989).
