Chapter 8 in Women in Business, 2012, pp 116-137 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract There are plenty of books that highlight ‘how to plan your career’ but it is not as simple as some of these might suggest. Our research indicates that as many of us know from experience, there are lots of different factors and triggers which affect an individual career, not least the need to seize opportunities that are presented. There is definitely some truth in the phrase about ‘being in the right place at the right time’. Equally valuable is the ability that not all of us possess – being able to learn from mistakes and to move on quickly rather than dwelling on injustices or missed opportunities.
