The Case and Context for Quality Working Relationships

Robin Martin

Chapter 7 in Ready for Change?, 2012, pp 129-144 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract People’s choice of research topic is often triggered by personal events. This was certainly the case for me with respect to my research into workplace leadership. My personal “events”, experiences shared broadly by others in the context of work, concerned in each instance the quality of my relationship with my manager. For the sake of simplicity, I will speak in the first person through the first part of this chapter though the “I” concerned is a fictional character, a composite of my personal experiences, of many stories I have accumulated from observations and of individuals whom I have coached over the years. So, continuing in the first person.
