Chapter 1 in Understanding Psychological Bonds between Individuals and Organizations, 2012, pp 1-4 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This book sets out to enhance our understanding of psychological bonds between individuals and organizations, as captured in the notion of “organizational identification”. While the nature of organizational identification is complex, the key proposition refers to a self-defining connection or bond between individuals and organizations. This psychological bond is seen as imperative for organizations competing in marketplaces characterized by fierce competition, as organizational identification increases employees’ willingness to actively support and generally act in the best interests of the organization (Rousseau, 1998).
