Chapter 2 in Understanding Mergers and Acquisitions in the 21st Century, 2013, pp 11-36 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Mergers are everyday occurrences. And individual mergers can be motivated by any number of motives. Proportionately, however, history tells us that most mergers are announced during a merger wave; that is, during a period of intense activity, which is usually followed by an interval of relatively less intense activity. And merger waves are very different animals.
