Chapter Chapter 1 in Private Equity Unchained, 2014, pp 1-6 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The focus of this book is institutional investment into the private equity market. That is to say, it is concerned with the deployment of capital into the asset class, rather than its investment into specific companies. For our purposes, private equity refers to an institutionalised way of owning a share of a company that is not registered and not publicly traded on an exchange. The process for investing in such financial instruments is not standardised but rather takes place through a negotiated process.1 It therefore requires a significant degree of sophistication on the part of the investor, let alone the fund manager who will deploy capital.
