A Beast of Many Faces: Complex Exploitation, the Sphere of Necessity and the Sphere of Freedom

Michal Polák

Chapter 7 in Class, Surplus, and the Division of Labour, 2013, pp 185-226 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, I would like to use what I found valuable in the work of other theorists to try to build up a theoretical picture capable of integrating the surplus- and the division-of-labour-oriented approaches to class. The discussion will proceed from the analysis of authority through other significant features of the division of labour to the concept of ‘complex exploitation’, which I believe will help to achieve the integration desired.
