Abstract: Abstract Franz M. Haniel, chairman of the board of directors at Haniel, talks here about his aim of forging a family identity and training family members to become professional owners. Haniel is an internationally successful, family-owned diversified group of companies. In 2012, it employed around 56,000 employees, generating sales of €26.3 billion in more than 30 countries. Haniel has been a family-owned business for over 250 years, with its headquarters in Duisburg-Ruhrort, Germany, throughout this time.*
