The Chasm
Andrew Duguid
Chapter 5 in On the Brink, 2014, pp 149-178 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The optimism of the first two years of new leadership faded gradually. Each of the three main legs of the business plan began to look shaky: the Equitas project team was struggling to quantify the old liabilities of Lloyd’s; the scale of the first wave of corporate capital was not maintained; and the expectations of litigating Names were raised by the GWAG court victory. Meanwhile, the losses continued to mount and were proving hard to collect. Regulators in Britain and the US began to get nervous about ability of Lloyd’s to pay policyholders.
