HRM in Scandinavia — Embedded in the Scandinavian Model?

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of this chapter is threefold: first, to identify similarities and differences between HR practice in the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway and Sweden); second, to analyse how the HR practice is embedded in the historical, cultural, social and political characteristics of the Scandinavian countries, including Scandinavian management; and third, to compare the Scandinavian HR practice with HR practice in a number of (deliberately chosen) similar or different European countries. In order to understand — and be able to interpret — the Scandinavian management and HR practices, a brief analysis of the societal situation in these areas will be provided.
