The Economic Development of East Asia and Latin America in Comparative Perspective

Anthony Elson

Chapter Chapter 2 in Globalization and Development, 2013, pp 19-35 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter outlines the key aspects of the economic development of East Asia and Latin America that can account for the “Big Reversal” in the economic fortunes of these two regions. The chapter also expands on the four factors that were identified in the previous chapter, which provide a framework for understanding how this Big Reversal came about. These four factors are examined in more detail in chapters 4 through 7.
