A chapter in SMEs as the Unknown Stakeholder, 2013, pp 1-5 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Workers represented by trade unions in Europe are, for the most part, government employees and, to a lesser extent, workers in large enterprises. Therefore, in Chapter 1, we embark on an investigation into how and to what extent the self-employed and micro-enterprise workers can be represented in the social arena. This is a study of the identification and analysis of best practice in industrial relations among the self-employed of Europe. We leverage important previous work that has conceptualized the negotiation point and the general goal of workers’ representation, which is defined as the answer to the following question: whom and whose specific interest is being served by representation? The general goal of workers’ representation is defined as ‘economic growth and greater employment’.
