Morocco as a Social and Cultural Context for Management Practice
Gillian Forster
Chapter 2 in The Influence of Islamic Values on Management Practice, 2014, pp 15-29 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is the first of three that will contribute to the development of a heuristic framework to explore how Islamic values influence management practice in Morocco. This chapter will give a brief exposition of Morocco as a country, in order to not only establish a cultural context for the research (and the reader!) but also identify characteristics of its ‘national character’ (Tayeb 1988 p 154) which may shape how management is practised. What follows therefore is an overview of the historical, political and socio-economic characteristics of the country formally known as the Kingdom of Morocco (Al Mamiakah al Maghribiyah), together with some insight into its national culture and the place of Islam within it.
