Chapter 6 in Land Tenure Reform in Asia and Africa, 2013, pp 137-161 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Earlier studies on the impacts of land certification in Ethiopia have identified significant positive investment and land productivity effects (Holden, et al., 2009; Deininger et al., 2008), a significant reduction in land border disputes (Holden et al., 2011a), and a significant enhancement of land rental market activity (Holden et al., 2011b; Deininger et al., 2011a). Female-headed households in particular appear to have become more tenure-secure after receiving land certificates, and have thus become more willing to rent their land through sharecropping contracts. These effects should also contribute to poverty reduction, but this has not yet been investigated thoroughly, and this is therefore the original contribution of this chapter.
