Abstract: Abstract This chapter introduces a new theory of world history that differs substantially from the theories reviewed in the last chapter. The Train of Time theory acknowledges the contributions of the linear, cyclical, and chaotic conceptions of world history but finds them insufficient. It sees each conception as describing one aspect or one stage of a history in the making, and therefore, neither conception is able to tell the entire story of world history, which continues to unfold. The train of time integrates the three conceptions, constructing a comprehensive theory able to tell the story of the development of human societies, describe the process of historical change, and identify the forces that drive history and keep it going. However, to understand this theory and appreciate its way of reasoning, history must be viewed as a virtual space that contains the entire world with its peoples, animals, plants, and all other things.
