Abstract: Abstract In this chapter I enter unchartered ground, the slippery slope of discussing unconscious bias. I have several reasons for writing this chapter on bias. I first uncovered unconscious bias when conducting narrative interviews. Equipped with a multicultural mindset, I was struck by this quiet deception. I have also observed and witnessed unconscious bias operating across organizations, impacting efforts at diversity and inclusion, specifically for women. In addition, unconscious bias is considered one of the barriers keeping women from achieving leadership positions (Barsh and Yee 2011; Barsh et al. 2012; Eagly and Mladinic 1995). Since this study captures lessons of experience, bias played a role in understanding and must be discussed and confronted.
