Chapter 23 in The Digital Currency Challenge: Shaping Online Payment Systems through US Financial Regulations, 2014, pp 149-159 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Digital currency brings financial freedom and opportunity for people at all levels of society. Growth in digital currency systems is likely to continue unabated for the next several decades. A recognized trend is that any user can design and issue his or her own brand of currency. It is also possible that any new BSA regulations combined with a less-than-enthusiastic US banking community could force Bitcoin payment products and companies out of the US market.
