Learning from Mentors through The Eight Ways of Thinking

John F. Kucia and Linda S. Gravett

Chapter Chapter 9 in Leadership in Balance, 2014, pp 117-142 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Through these candid excerpts, we are privileged to listen and to learn from a talented group of successful executives who are more humble than heroic; who develop relationships and personal influence as the foundation for their leadership; who set the tone by living the values of their organization; who encourage collaboration by spreading leadership, authority, and responsibility with a clear and accountable purpose—to make better decisions and to execute them better; who take seriously the role of leader as a teacher and a learner; who clearly understand the challenge of globalization and the value of diversity of people and ideas; and finally, although they value collaboration, they are comfortable making hard decisions because they trust their own good judgment, instincts, and intuition.
