Chapter 1 in The Remaking of the Mining Industry, 2015, pp 12-37 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract It was the autumn of 1999, and Hugh Morgan, the forthright head of Western Mining Corporation, was entering the United Kingdom to deliver an address at the London Metal Exchange (LME) dinner, one of the biggest events in the global corporate calendar. In response to an immigration officer’s enquiry regarding his occupation, he replied that he worked in the mining industry. The officer eyed him quizzically and asked, ‘Are they still doing that?’1
