Chapter Chapter 5 in Bleeding Talent, 2012, pp 109-141 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract WAR WILL CHANGE AN ARMY. AS I WRITE, the last American troops are marching out of Iraq after eight years of war, occupation, and counterinsurgency. Roughly one hundred thousand remain in Afghanistan, escalated from forty thousand to more than one hundred thousand by President Barack Obama, who is now planning a drawdown to sixty-eight thousand or fewer. The numbers of troops required has been unpredictable, but the armed forces have responded with admirable resilience and professionalism.
