Chapter 3 in The Early Years, 2015, pp 55-89 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The family is the single most important determinant of child well-being. It matters in myriad ways. Parents decide what to feed their children and when to take them to the doctor. The home environment in which children are raised can be nurturing and warm, or harsh and cold. By talking to children, playing with them, reading or telling stories to them—or not—parents and other family members determine how much stimulation young children receive.
