Abstract:
Abstract When M. J. F. Gravier’s work, Paris et le Désert Français (itself originally a roneotyped paper which circulated in the French Treasury) was published by Flammarion in 1947, the stage was set for a gradual intensification of an environmental battle in France, dating back to 1790, the regional conflict. Indeed most environmental questions may be reduced to the question of the intensive concentration in and around Paris and a few other centres, to the detriment of most regions which were well-balanced in population and economic distribution in the eighteenth century.
