Chapter 8 in Technology in Comecon, 1974, pp 203-225 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The neglect of agriculture in relation to other branches of the economy (except trade) in the Comecon countries in the past was largely a consequence of the priority given to industrialization. Agriculture suffered from relatively low proportions of investment allocations (see Table 26, p. 173), from large-scale shifts of the work-force mostly involving the younger and more resourceful groups (see Table 2, p. 27), a depressed level of earnings, poor amenities in rural areas and the generally low social prestige attached to agriculture.
