Abstract: Abstract Just over four years ago the important International Conference on the World Crisis in Education was held in Williamsburg, Virginia. That an education crisis existed was amply documented and its ramifications were analysed and discussed. In our present context we need to explore the dimensions of that crisis under conditions peculiar to Southern Africa. Then, hopefully, we may try to find some solutions. At least five major educational problems comprising that crisis can be identified.
