Chapter 2 in International Banking and Finance, 1974, pp 17-46 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Regulation of foreign banking embraces all of the complexities of overlapping jurisdiction. These problems focus on the operational relationships between firms domiciled in one country, the governments and regulatory agencies of the country of domicile, and the governments and regulatory agencies of the country in which that bank conducts its overseas operations. The U.S. situation is further confounded by a federal system in which state and national governments share regulatory authority and in which a multiplicity of regulatory agencies operate at the national level. Discussion of the regulation of foreign banks operating in the United States is deferred until Chapter 7.
