On being beastly to conferences
S. G. Sturmey
Chapter 4 in Shipping Economics, 1975, pp 33-46 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The title of this is not provocative. Having become cast in the role of Public Enemy Number One by the liner conferences I can be expected to be beastly to them. Indeed, if I was not beastly there would be immediate suspicion throughout the relevant parts of the City of London, and other European cities also, that I was cooking up something absolutely malevolent for use in the future. One must never disappoint the expectations of people, particularly when it is more fun to meet their expectations than to disappoint them.
