Chapter 8 in Shipping Economics, 1975, pp 102-108 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Since steamships were first used there has been, in most branches of shipping, a clear trend towards increase in the size of ships employed. Although marked, the trend towards increasing size in not a simple one, while the reasons for the trend and for the different way it has gone in different trades and ship types are even more complex.
