A chapter in The External Economic Relations of the EEC, 1976, pp 89-96 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The external economic relations of the European Economic Community can be divided into three separate periods. The first period covered the transitional period and the years until the enlargement of the Community. These were the golden years for the Common Market during which a distinct common external economic personality was developed. The next period was that in which the Community was enlarged and which also coincided with the energy crisis and an extension of monetary problems. This period was, nevertheless, enhanced by the signing of the Lomé Agreement, with its influence on the attitude of the Common Market at the international trade negotiations. The third period belongs to the future and is more a subject of conjecture and presents limitless variables and possibilities. Here, nevertheless, the author is interested in suggesting certain policies which might be adopted.
