Multinational Portfolio Management

Francis A. Lees

Chapter 6 in Foreign Banking and Investment in the United States, 1976, pp 72-92 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In the period 1960–74 the scope of international investment operations has expanded at a quickening pace. This expansion has been achieved despite the appearance of new and formidable obstacles such as U.S. controls on capital flows, a world monetary crisis, and global inflation. At the forefront of this expanded international investment activity have been the multinational banks of American, European and Japanese nationality. The widened scope of international investment, in part an outgrowth of the internationalisation of business and banking, has generated a need for better understanding of the effects and influences from foreign investment. In the United States the Congress passed into law the Foreign Investment Study Act of 1974. This Act directs the Secretary of Commerce and Secretary of the Treasury to ’conduct a comprehensive, overall study of foreign direct and portfolio investment in the United States’.
