The Relationship between Trade Union Action and Political Parties

Rainer Deppe, Richard Herding and Dietrich Hoss

Chapter 7 in The Resurgence of Class Conflict in Western Europe since 1968, 1978, pp 177-196 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract ‘Fifty years from-now, we’ll have had a big revolution. It will start in the West, in France or Italy, where left-wing parties are very strong. The people can be clubbed and shot ninety-nine times, just like they have been doing in Italy now, but it won’t work the hundredth time. Or else, a big strike wave will trigger the revolution. In France and Italy, there is a lot more dissatisfaction than here. But here too, workers are growing restless. … The bosses know what’s in store for them.’
