A chapter in The Multinational Enterprise in a Hostile World, 1977, pp 1-15 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The theme of the conference at which the following papers were presented suggested itself quite naturally. In 1972 the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations asked the Secretary-General to appoint a ‘group of eminent persons’ to study the role of multinational corporations in developing countries. This group was itself eminently multinational, since its twenty members counted nineteen nationalities between them and they met five times in four different countries. The Geneva subsidiary of the United Nations was not ignored in the course of these peripatetics, and it was with great interest that academics in Geneva followed their comings and goings.
