Chapter 2 in The Economic and Political Development of the Sudan, 1977, pp 13-27 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Population growth and manpower quality can be controlling variables in the economic and political development of a nation such as the Sudan. Rapid population growth places a strain on limited capital and other resources. Manpower quality influences the amount of production that can be achieved in total and per capita. The statistical data on population and manpower in the Sudan leave many questions unanswered. Nevertheless, the brief analysis contained in this chapter provides a perspective on the Sudan which is needed to have a balanced view of an economy in process of transition. Moreover, it introduces the researcher to some new questions concerning economic progress and manpower untilisation in the Sudan.
