The Big Strikes
B. J. McCormick
Chapter 6 in Industrial Relations in the Coal Industry, 1979, pp 180-226 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Big strikes attract public attention, and in this chapter we shall examine those which have occurred since nationalisation. Three of them were specific to Yorkshire and Yorkshire played a major role in the others. For each of the strikes we shall describe the course of events and analyse their causes and effects. And because the strikes of 1969–74 were official and national we shall place them in a wider perspective by examining their implications for economic and social policy.
