Abstract: Abstract This case study explains to the student the nature of an assembly line and the types of variation which the operational management of an assembly line is forced to accommodate. Much of the material in the case is devoted to a description of the supporting production programming and control which surrounds the intense supplier/customer relationship in the motor car industry.
