Foreign Deficit

Ljubo Sirc

Chapter 11 in The Yugoslav Economy under Self-Management, 1979, pp 162-172 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The original trend to autarchy (in 1958 exports amounted to only 5.5 per cent of the GSP — Ep 1.1.64) posed difficult problems for foreign trade (see p. 23). Planning for sales in foreign markets is well-nigh impossible, so that there had been hardly any such planning at any level and trade was more or less accidental (33, pp. 673, 675). In 1961, there was an almost complete breakdown which was resolved by an IMF stabilisation loan (33, p. 674).
