Abstract: Abstract In addition to the two main islands (North and South), New Zealand includes several smaller islands and more distant territories: the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau islands and a segment of Antarctica, the Ross Dependency, are administered by New Zealand. The following discussion concerns the three main islands, lying about 1600 kilometres east of Australia in the South Pacific.
