Abstract:
Abstract This chapter begins by summarising economists’ insights into the nature of efficient resource allocation. Section 2.2 introduces the concept of Pareto-efficiency and describes the role of prices in the coordination of economic activities. Section 2.3 considers the use of discriminatory pricing to achieve efficient allocation under increasing returns to scale.
