Abstract:
Abstract Antoine-Augustin Cournot was born1 on 28 August 1801 at Gray, a French town in the Franche-Comté. The family background was essentially rural, but an uncle of his was a public notary. It was this uncle, with his conservative leanings, who exercised a considerable influence on Cournot.
