The Technostructure and its Goals
David Reisman
Chapter 2 in Galbraith and Market Capitalism, 1980, pp 7-26 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The reliance on advanced technology and the employment of large quantities of capital in the modern corporation have, by putting a premium on skill and knowledge, given rise to a new dominant élite, the technostructure. In Section I of this chapter we will examine the nature of this new class, in Section II consider its goals and in Section III investigate the position of the old-style capitalist in the new-style scheme of things. In Section IV we will attempt an evaluation of Galbraith’s views on the technostructure and its goals.
