Abstract: Abstract In retrospect, the crisis in December 1973 can be seen as the culmination of a fifteen-year period of rapid change in the City of London’s banking and financial mechanisms. In 1958 new influences, partly political and partly economic, began to make for an environment which was more hospitable than before to new money enterprises.
