The Supply of Bank Money in England and Wales, 1920–1938

Chapter 1 in Essays in Economic Dynamics, 1982, pp 1-27 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This paper attempts by an analysis of the available statistics to make some estimate of the forces governing the supply of bank money in England and Wales. The latter in turn presumably controls the total supply of money. The general difficulty in drawing any conclusions from the study of time series, especially for relatively short periods, is operative here and makes results tentative. Yet the problem is rendered easier by the fact that frequently the controlling factors are not cyclical and hence are not especially liable to inter-correlation.
