Abstract:
Abstract In its broadest sense, the supply of labour encompasses the actual and potential working population and it is known as manpower. It is usually understood to include persons of 15 years of age and over, consisting of the following categories: (1) employees (working for wages or salaries), (2) self-employed, (3) persons living entirely off the income derived from the ownership of assets, (4) persons supported by others, and (5) unemployed persons. The working population embraces categories (1), (2) and (3), whilst the labour force or the economically active population (the term used by the United Nations) includes only (1) and (5).
